The College was established by Bagbahara Education Committee on 01 July 1972 for higher education in Saraipali Nagar. Saraipali region has been under Phuljhar State in the past. Hence, the full name of this college was named Phuljhar College Saraipali. This private college was acquired by the government on 01 October 1986 And it was named Government Phuljhar College, Saraipali Later, according to the order of 15-01-2003 by the Government of Chhattisgarh, this college was renamed the Late Raja Virendra Bahadur Singh Government College, Saraipali, District-Mahasamund (C.G.).
In beginning College had no any own building. It is started in closed B.T.I. building. The foundation stone of the present building was laid by the then Member of Parliament Mahasamund Honorable Pandit Shyamacharan Shukl on 07 December 2002. This programme was held under the chairmanship of the then C.G. State Minister for Mineral Resources and Public Relations Honorable Devendra Bahadur singh. The new building of the college was inaugurated by Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Government Honorable Dr. Raman Singh on 10 july 2006. This programme was held under the chairmanship of the then Minister Agriculture, food, animal husbandry Chhattisgarh government and incharge minister of Mahasamund District Honorable Nankiram Kanwar. Chief guest of this programme was the then MLA Honorable Trilochan patel and Chairman of District Panchayat Honorable Chhattar singh Nayak . It was shifted to its present site, campus of 06.288 Hectare, in 2006. Since then the college is continuously growing in terms of infrastructure and learning resources in its journey towards excellence. Present own building was constructed for only arts faculty. Even now science laboratory and commerce classes Running in closed B.T.I. building.
This college Registered under Section 12 (B) & 2(F) of UGC Act and Affiliated to Pt. Ravi Shankar Shukla University, Raipur.
The College offers UG and PG courses in Arts, Science and Commerce streams with 12 Academic department including 05 PG departments.
Presently, B.A., B.Sc. (Mathematics, Biology and Computer Science), B.Com. at undergraduate level and M.A. (Politics, Geography and Hindi), M.Com. , M.Sc. (Chemistry) at Postgraduate level and D.C.A. , P.G.D.C.A. at Diploma level Regular Classes are conducted.
Private students can choose this college as Examination Centre and fill online private examination forms for class B.A, B.Sc., B.Com., M.A.(Hindi, English, Sanskrit, Political Science, Economics) and M.Com.
The college has a strong, committed and dedicated teaching faculty of 03 PhD holders and 01 M.Phil. holders. There are 06 Regular, 12 Guest and 03 Self finance teaching faculty .
In this College NSS, Phuljhar Nature Club, Red Cross and Eco Club Unit are working for social growth of students. The NSS, Nature Club, Youth Red Cross and Eco Club wings are actively involved in social activities and hold camps regularly in the rural areas, with the mission of spreading literacy and hygiene. They also organize Environmental Awareness Campaigns. NSS also have a separate Girls Wing.
The college library is well equipped with books, journals, periodicals. It has a book bank facility for SC and ST students and facilities for BPL students.
College gives a number of scholarship to students for economical support. just like post metric scholarship, Below poverty line student welfare scholarship (BPL Scholarship) Minority Scholarship ,Central scholarship and poor student aid scholarship.
Janbhagidari committee has been functioning in this college since 1997. It is works for College Development and Students Welfare. Presently the Honorable Kismatlal Nand, MLA Saraipali Constituent Assembly, is the chairman of Janbhagidari committee.
